It is suggested that sensitivity to staphylococcal alpha-toxin and streptolysin S may be explicable in terms of specific phospholipid composition of cell membranes, whereas sensitivity to streptolysin O is dependent upon the presence in cell membranes of cholesterol. The results suggest that streptolysin O might prove to be a useful reagent for differentiating L forms from parasitic pleuropneumonia-like organisms.

Identification of bacterial antigens and super antigens in synovial fluid of patients with arthritis: a cross sectional study
Background : An accurate and prompt diagnosis of bacterial arthritis is essential for earlier treatment and a good outcome. Superantigens produced by Staph. Aureus are among the most lethal toxins. The paper objective was Identification of common bacterial antigens and S.aureus superantigens in synovial fluid (SF) of children with negative culture and direct smear for other bacteria except fo...

Streptococcal exotoxin and staphylococcal enterotoxin share several biological properties, including pyrogenicity, lymphocyte mitogenicity, and enhancement of gram-negative endotoxin lethality. These analogies of the toxins prompted comparative pyrogenic studies. When American Dutch rabbits were immunized by repeated intravenous injections of small amounts of staphylococcal enterotoxin, they ex...

متن کاملStaphylococcal and Streptococcal Superantigens: Basic Biology of Conserved Protein Toxins
Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes are gram-positive bacteria that possess great pathogenic potential in humans, causing numerous maladies such as arthritis, cutaneous infections, endocarditis, enterocolitis, food poisoning, pharyngitis, pneumonia, rheumatic fever, surgical site infections, and toxic shock. These prevalent pathogens produce various virulence factors that include t...
متن کاملPrediction of T-cell epitopes for designing a reverse vaccine against streptococcal bacteria
Streptococcal bacteria are among dangerous human pathogens with major prevalence worldwide. A good vaccine against streptococcal bacteria should have epitopes that confer protection from infection by different streptococcal bacteria types. we aimed was to recognize the most immunogenic and conserved epitopes of streptococcal bacteria, which could be a potential candidate for vaccine development...
